Privacy policy

Omnibar is a Mac app made by Berkley Software. It is built so that what you search, copy and type stays on your Mac. This page explains exactly what leaves your Mac and when.
What stays on your Mac
- Your search index. The list of files, apps and folders Omnibar searches is built and stored on your Mac.
- Your searches. What you type into Omnibar is never sent to us.
- Your clipboard history, snippets, quicklinks and settings. These are stored in Omnibar's folder in your Library on your Mac.
- Your conversations with an AI assistant. Saved conversations are stored on your Mac.
What leaves your Mac
- Questions you send to an AI assistant. When you ask a question or run an AI command, Omnibar sends that text, and any file or screenshot you attach, to the assistant you chose: ChatGPT through OpenAI's Codex tool, Claude through Anthropic's Claude Code tool, or OpenRouter with your own key. That provider's own privacy policy applies to what you send it. Nothing is sent to an AI provider unless you ask a question or run an AI command.
- Currency rates. To convert currencies, Omnibar downloads the daily reference rates published by the European Central Bank. The request contains nothing about you.
- License checks. When you enter a license key, and from time to time after that, Omnibar checks the key with Polar, the company that sells Omnibar for us. The check sends the key and an identifier for your Mac, so the key can be limited to three Macs.
- Anonymous usage counts, only if you allow them. During setup you can choose to send counts such as how many searches were run. They never include what you searched for, file names, paths, clipboard contents, questions or answers. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
Your OpenRouter key
If you use your own OpenRouter key, Omnibar stores it in the macOS Keychain and sends it only to OpenRouter. Omnibar never sees or stores your ChatGPT or Claude login; those tools keep their own sign-in on your Mac.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Polar Software, Inc., which acts as the merchant of record. Polar collects your name, email address and payment details to process the payment, send your license key and handle taxes. We receive your email address and order details from Polar so we can support your purchase. We never see your full card number. Polar's privacy policy is at polar.sh/legal/privacy.
